Traditional Baby Prams

A traditional baby pram is one which is very reflective of the early Victorian-era prams. These prams are 4-wheeled strollers and provide an elevated bassinet-like bed area for your baby to lie comfortably and usually offer a canopy to protect your baby from exposure to the elements. Though the original prams were typically made in a black material, today?s baby prams offer more color variety for parents.

There's an old saying that "what is old comes new again". This is especially true for traditional-style prams. Over the years, as strollers have evolved to offer more varieties, features, and comforts for parents, traditional baby carriages and prams lost popularity. However, as many of today?s parents like to express their uniqueness through fashion and style for both themselves and their children, traditional prams are becoming popular once again, although today?s baby carriages do offer a lot more comfort and additional features over the original baby prams from 2 centuries ago.

An important point to note regarding traditional baby prams is that this style does not lend itself to older children. The traditional baby pram is best suited for babies from newborn through the first year. These traditional strollers are designed to provide the utmost comfort for your baby to lie in. However, as you child begins to grow and become more mobile, this traditional style baby carriage does not offer a safe, seated position for your larger child.

Though traditional baby prams may advertise they support larger children, perhaps as much as 25 to 30 pounds, we have found that as children become more mobile they tend to want to climb out of the baby pram. At that time, it is best to consider transitioning to a seated-style single stroller or a pram stroller.

Although traditional baby prams are being sought by many parents, not many companies are yet offering (or perhaps I should say "re-offering") the traditional style. Today, many of the manufacturers that offer prams offer what may be better classified as a pram stroller ? one that offers a flat-lying position and also adapts to a seated-position stroller. As tradition baby prams have a nostalgic, formal and elegant look to them, many baby prams currently available tend to address the luxury baby market and are high-end, luxurious carriages.
