Prams

One of the most interesting trends in the stroller world is that of renewed interest in prams. Prams became very popular in the Victorian Era. Originating on a very simple design, traditionally-styled prams have been in use for hundreds of years. However, with the recent wave of interest in prams, new innovations and variations on the basic pram are now available.

Today, there are a couple of styles of baby strollers that are considered prams. Though they do have very different appearances to them, they are both intended to provide flat-lying comfort to your infant. To help determine which style pram is best for you, it?s easiest to consider today?s prams as falling into one of the following two categories:

At heart, the traditional baby pram is a traveling bassinet for your infant. Newborns and very young babies will enjoy being able to lie flat in the baby pram, just like they do in the crib at home. This type of baby carriage is probably the most comfortable option for your infant.

Modern pram strollers are an evolution that adapts to older children as well. Providing a flat-lying position (often by means of an attachable bassinet), the pram stroller also converts to a seated-position stroller as your baby begins to sit upright on his or her own. On average, babies are usually ready for seated strolling at about six months.

So, which type of pram is best for you? Well, only you can decide that. However, there are a few considerations to keep in mind when selecting a pram style.

Style

  • Do you appreciate the nostalgic, formal, and elegant look that a traditional baby pram offers?
  • Or, are you looking for the sleek design a modern pram stroller provides?

Child Growth

  • Are you looking for the optimal infant comfort as provided by a traditional baby pram?
  • Or, do you want the pram to grow with your child as supported by the modern pram stroller?

Pram Lifetime

  • Do you plan do purchase a replacement stroller as you baby grows out of the traditional baby pram (as they begin to sit-up and walk)?
  • Or, do you expect your pram to be with your child into toddler years as offered by the modern pram stroller?

Now It?s Up to You

Either type of pram can be a very good choice as long as you consider the differences and the trade-off you are making with one style over the other.

Once you determine which pram type is your best option, the rest of the selection becomes much easier. You can now do an apples-to-apples comparison of stroller features and feel comfortable that you are making a valid comparison.
